The HortSys research unit hosts a specialist of photosynthesis in Réunion island

Ivana Tomášková, lecturer and researcher at the University of Life Sciences in Prague, Czech Republic, is hosted by the HortSys research unit in Réunion island from December 18, 2017 to February 23, 2018. She gets an Erasmus research grant for her travel, stay and research activities in Réunion island. She is plant physiologist, specialized on photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence, stress and transpiration physiology in perennials. She mainly works on forest species.

Her research activity in Réunion island is shared between the assessment of photosynthetic capacity of 10 mango varieties and the measurement of photosynthesis on branches with and without growing mangoes of the variety Cogshall. The results of the first study will highlight if the varieties have different photosynthetic capacity and if these differences can be related to the differences in yield and bearing pattern among them. Measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence will also indicate possible differences in relation to stress among these varieties. The results of the second study will enable to refine some parameters of the photosynthesis module in the model of mango yield and quality development for the variety Cogshall.
